A lot of years have passed since the first “brain-training” apps arrived on the scene, and it’s still not entirely clear whether they are effective or not. Indeed, two major studies on such apps (conducted in 2014) came up with opposing conclusions. One claimed the apps had no impact, whereas the other claimed a substantial improvement to cognitive function.

So, who to believe? Well, there isn’t definitive evidence either way yet. But it’s worth remembering that we are talking about commercial brain training products. We do know, however, that there are other ways to exercise the brain that can help with cognitive function, as well as delivering other benefits like stress relief.
