Hello Folks!!!
Today, we are going to discuss about the Advantage for dogs,
Advantage for Dogs is a topical flea control treatment designed to protect dogs from fleas. The active ingredient in Advantage is imidacloprid, which belongs to a class of chemicals called neonicotinoids. Here’s how Advantage works:
1. Application:
Advantage comes in the form of a spot-on solution that is applied directly to the skin on the back of the dog’s neck. The treatment is usually applied once a month.
2. Distribution:
Once applied, Advantage is rapidly distributed over the dog’s skin and coat. The active ingredient, imidacloprid, is then absorbed into the oil glands within the skin.
3. Flea Nervous System:
Imidacloprid works by interfering with the nervous system of fleas. It acts on nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in the flea’s body, causing overstimulation. This overstimulation leads to paralysis and death of the fleas.
4. Rapid Action:
Advantage starts killing fleas within 12 hours of application. It is known for its quick action in breaking the flea life cycle, preventing the development of flea eggs, larvae, and pupae.
5. Residual Protection:
Advantage provides residual protection, meaning it continues to kill newly acquired fleas for up to a month after application. This helps in preventing reinfestation.
6. Waterproof:
Advantage is waterproof, so it remains effective even if the dog gets wet or is bathed. This makes it a convenient choice for dogs that are frequently exposed to water.
It’s important to note that Advantage is specifically designed for flea control and does not provide protection against ticks or other parasites. Additionally, before using any flea control product, it’s advisable to consult with a veterinarian to ensure it is suitable for your dog’s health and specific needs.
